Areas of Mallorca – Southwest

The popular southwest area includes trendy Puerto Portals, Santa Ponsa with famous golf courses, charming Puerto de Andratx and many other nice areas.

Bendinat, Portals Nous and Puerto Portals

Located at only a 5 minute drive from Palma, this area is one of the most sought after areas in the Southwest. It is perfect for people for people who want to combine a holiday lifestyle with all year round living. It offers a choice of top international hotels, a variety of restaurants, bars and nightlife, much of which is concentrated around the luxury harbor Puerto Portals. There is a wide variety of activities for children and sport fans also, including an excellent tennis club, the Bendinat golf course, a well equipped marina with a sailing school and Marineland. The average price range is from €400,000 for a 2 bedroom apartment to €2 or €3 million for a villa.

Nova Santa Ponsa, Santa Ponsa and Puerto Adriano

Santa Ponsa is only about a 15 minute drive southwest of Palma. It is a lively area all year round and it is an excellent area for both families looking for a second home as well as for potential investors. Nova Santa Ponsa, the residential area of Santa Ponsa, boasts 4 golf courses, 2 excellent marinas and 2 nice white sandy beaches. There are many good restaurants in both marinas and major shops; banks and supermarkets are located on the main avenue in Santa Ponsa. There is also two large gyms: the Santa Ponsa Country Club and the Illes Fitness Center, both of which have a spa, tennis and/or paddle courts, indoor pools, Pilates and fully equipped gyms.
The harbor of Puerto Adriano, located in Nova Santa Ponsa, will undergo a major extension next year adding 80 moorings and ensuring that larger yachts can also dock. In addition, a new shopping and restaurant area is being developed alongside the harbour, very similar to Puerto Portals.
The average price range is from 360.000 Euro for a 2 bedroom apartment and from 1 million Euro for a villa.

Paguera and Cala Fornells

Cala Fornells is situated in a small cove of the municipality of Calvià. Thanks to its privileged location, protected from the north winds by the Tramuntana mountain range, Cala Fornells enjoys a mild temperature all year round ideal for swimming and open air activities, in both winter and summer. The sea and nature are the main features of the immediate surroundings. There are several small charming beaches in Cala Fornells: Cala Fornells Beach, with fine golden sand and calm waters, just a few meters away is the Caló de ses Llises, a small beach of eroded rocks surrounded by pine trees and colorful cliffs, and the Caló des Monjo, a completely unspoilt nudist beach, only 10 minutes away.
Paguera is a tourist resort just outside Cala Fornells. Paguera has three sandy beaches –Palmira beach, Torà beach and Romana beach– as well as a pleasant sea promenade and a beautiful boulevard with a great variety of services, shops, bars and discos.
Most of the apartments in Cala Fornells, were designed by the architect Pedro Otzoup whose architecture was heavily influenced by the typical Spanish village Mediterranean architecture.
Prices in Cala Fornells for a 2 bedroom apartment start at 350.000 Euro and for a villa from 1.3 million Euro. Prices in Paguera are slightly lower.

Andratx and Puerto de Andratx

The municipality of Andratx is located approximately 30 minutes southwest of Palma. Puerto de Andratx is one of the most beautiful resorts in Mallorca. Its natural beauty attracts thousands of visitors in search the perfect place in the sun. The area has a particular charm with marvelous small coves for swimming, a hilly topology and a perfect Mediterranean weather. Attractive boutiques and international restaurants line the sea front promenade of this old fishing harbor. A cycle path and promenade joins the harbor to Andratx town, only a few kilometers away. Here typical Mallorca townhouses predominate and a lively square hosts a fresh fruit and vegetable market every Wednesday. The best sandy beaches are located in the small village of San Telmo, about a 10 minute drive, and the resort of Camp de Mar, about a 5 minute drive. The nearest golf course is in Camp de Mar. There are various types of properties for sale in this area: seaside luxury villas, sea view apartments with shared pool and garden, and the more traditional townhouses conserving the traditional Mallorca architecture. The average price range is from 350 000 Euro for a 2 bedroom apartment and 1.5 million Euro for a villa.
