Areas of Mallorca – South
The South is home to the island's best beaches with kilometers of long white sands and pretty turquoise coves. Several are backed by nature reserves so remain unspoilt and peaceful places to relax. The nature reserves themselves are great places for walking and bird watching. Inland the South's flat agricultural landscape makes it ideal for cycling with endless kilometers of country lanes linking sleepy ancient towns and villages.
Set on a headland, the seaside resort of Sa Rapita is flanked on both sides by attractive sandy beaches. The best place to head for is the harbor front with its marina and seafront restaurants.
More inland, Campos is a quiet agricultural town which livens up on Saturday, market day. Set in rural surroundings, it’s a friendly place with a smattering of interesting shops, restaurants and excellent bakeries such as the famous Pomar bakery.
The small sleepy town of Santanyi has become more cosmopolitan due to the insurgence of foreign buyers. Here amongst the narrow streets a mix of traditional cafes and shops can be found alongside interior design boutiques.
The south has a great selection of beaches. The best beach on the island Es Trenc offers four kilometres of white sand and blue sea backed by dunes and a natural park. Platja d’es Dolc next to Colonial de Sant Jordi is the first of a string of attractive beaches such as Es Caragol that can be reached by foot. Another popular area is Ses Salines.
This region provides excellent value for money considering its proximity to Palma, about a 30 minute drive, now even closer because of the newly opened motorway. Prices for a 2 bedroom apartment in Sa Rapita start from 200 000 Euros and for a 3 bedroom villa from 700 000 Euro.
